College Football Quick Picks: Week 2
Ok so after a very mediocre start it’s time to redeem myself with some of the biggest games to be played tomorrow:
#19 UNC -4 @ UConn: Saturday at Noon on ESPNU
The Huskies are surprisingly tough to beat at home, and have knocked off ranked teams in the past on their field. However, UNC’s run game will be too much to handle for the UConn defense. I think the Huskies keep it competitive, but QB Zach Fraser will make a throwing mistake that the Tar Heels D will take advantage of. Insider info: rain forecasted in Connecticut will keep the score down.
I’m going UNC 24, UConn 16
#18 Notre Dame -3 @ Michigan: Saturday at 3:30 on ABC
The Fighting Irish trio of wideouts will be too much for Michigan’s secondary to handle in the end. ND’s QB Jimmy Clausen will have another big day throwing, and they will be able to get out of the Big House with a win. I’m not sure I would bet on this line but…
Let’s say Notre Dame 28, Michigan 21
#16 TCU -11 @ Virginia: Saturday @ 3:30 on ESPNU
Continuing with this weekend’s theme of top 25 teams winning on the road, I like the Horned Frogs in this one. Their offense is potent, and their defense is poisonous. TCU has won its last 6 opening games by an average of 17.5 points and Virginia is coming off a loss. I think UVA could cover at home by a nose, but this game flies over 41.5.
TCU 34, Virginia 21
#3 USC -7 @ #8 Ohio State: Staurday @ 8 on ABC
And now the big one…USC’s freshman QB Barkley needs to avoid mistakes against a real solid OSU defense. If the Buckeyes’ Terrelle Pryor gets too many opportunities on offense, Ohio State will put up enough puts to win, even against the powerful Trojans D. I think OSU’s defense can stay active enough to throw off Barkley, and OSU really can win this one in front of their home crowd, but they come up just short.
USC 23, Ohio State 20
Random of the Week: Kent State +21 @ Boston College
I’m an Eagles fan that refuses to pick them against the spread two weeks in a row. BC in a whitewash.
BC 45, Kent State 14
