Highlighting the Loaded Field in Shanghai, Day 1

The HSBC Champions event in Shanghai has brought the likes of Tiger, Phil, Westwood and Kaymer all halfway across the world to play. Pretty legit stuff (they even got Tai Chi lessons, above). All 4 have a shot at the no.1 ranking in the world, with Westwood being the one at the top just tryin’ to hang on for a second week. Here’s how they did in day 1:

Tiger (tied for 6th, 4 under 68): Only one bogey on his card, and an impressive display of putting. 2 things I’ve rarely said about Tiger in 2010. Let’s see if he keeps it up.

Phil (tied for 9th, 3 under 69): Typial…sprayed it all over the course, made random birdies. He din’t take advantage of the par 5’s at all, so pretty good scrapping on Phil’s part.

Westwood (2nd, 6 under 66): Not ready to hand over the top spot just yet…a rock solid round proves that his ranking is deserved based on his play all year round.

Kaymer (tied for 35th, evev par 72): 9 pars on the back nine. He hit it solid, but couldn’t get anything going on the greens.

Francesco Molinari is your leader heading into round 2…coverage begins on the Golf Channel at midnight eastern…aka set your DVR’s.
