Kaymer Passes Tiger in World Ranking

The German-born 2010 PGA Champion won today in Abu Dhabi by a commanding 8 shots, and passed Tiger Woods to move to the number 2 ranking in the world, behind Lee Westwood.

“I think for Lee and me, it’s a very nice position to be No.1 and No.2 in the world. You can see how strong European golf became the last few years, and not only through The Ryder Cup, just if you have a look at the Major winners last year,” Kaymer said…”I never expected my career to go this fast. There was not a lot to improve this week, but there’s always something and I’ll be working on my game before Qatar in two weeks,”
This is the first time that Europeans occupy the top 2 world ranking spots since 1993 (Faldo and Langer), and it shows how international the game is getting. Nearly half of the top 20 in the world aren’t from the U.S. As for Tiger, well this is just another hurdle in his quest back to the top in 2011.
