Breaking a New Record in Golf This Week

2011 in golf has been of “news”, while the olds have exited. Young winners like Schwartzel, Bradley, and McIlroy. All 3 are major champions and only in their 20’s. Webb Simpson has won twice and finished runner up 3 times in 2011, but one player in particular elevated his game to a level I didn’t think I would ever see and played better, and more consistently, playing a world wide schedule.

I stretched the words “world” and “wide” apart for Luke Donald because you have to look at this guy’s playing schedule this year. He played golf in times I didn’t know existed, but first on the PGA Tour…

It speaks for itself. 4 wins worldwide, a boatload of top 10’s more than anybody else in 2011, and the shot at a historical mark that never been achieved before. Nobody has ever won the money list on both the European Tour and the PGA Tour. That means a couple things. First, if you see Luke at a bar, don’t be afraid to put a few drinks on his tab (he can pick it up), and second, he has to play in this week’s PGA Tour finale. He is teeing it up, and he’s $363,000 behind Webb Simpson. Anything outside the top 2 at Disney this week will not do in order for Luke Donald to do soemthing that no golfer has ever done before. The game is getting worldwide, and if the PGA Tour wants to further acknowledge the worldwide presence in the game, then they will give the Player of the Year to Luke Donald.
